Hey Rob - What can I say that hasn't been said already - you did the right thing, which took courage - they are doing the wrong thing... The fact that your sparkle shines through your sadness shows what a gem you are!!!

as we all know, i have been a little sick (or as some of you may know).
which has led to less sparkle.
which led to me being a little emotional.

i haven't been here in a while, but it's nice to see so many old faces (posters).
anyway, i am wondering if anyone knows what doctrine exists, if any, on jws marrying non-jws.
my sister, a jw, is getting married to a non-jw in a couple of months.
Hi Margie
I cant really quote you on doctrine, but I can tell you my little story. I was a baptised JW who started dating a non JW. I got into all sorts of trouble with the elders, from being councilled to eventually being marked. After a few months, I moved out of my parents home into my own place and just stopped going to meetings at which time the elders, but not my parents, stopped harassing me. After a couple of years of dating, we decided to get married.
My parents advised that they would not attend my wedding if it took place in a church or was conducted by a minister or preacher from any other religion, and obviously since I was no longer attending meetings and my husband was not a dub, we could not have a KH wedding or have an elder marry us (not that I even considered this option). My mother wanted us to have a civil ceremony. My mother in law (an anglican) was highly unhappy at the thought of a civil ceremony. What a performance! Eventually we found a chaplain of the local emergency services who was willing to perform a ceremony which sorted of complied with both mother's wishes. Only problem was that he was not a marriage officer! Luckily my husband's uncle is a retired magistrate and he offered to do the legal bit at the wedding venue. It worked out quite well - both parents attended and were reasonably happy.
The next issue was at the reception. My father obviously did not propose a toast in his speech, whereas my huband and his best man did - my parents did not raise their glasses which my in laws thought was very rude.
It was quite a performance - but well worth it! 8 years later, we are still happily married. If I did it all again, I am sure I would not give a stuff what either of the parents thought and worry only about making my and my husband's wedding dreams come true!

Hey White Dove - I love pizza, the cheesier, the better. And creamy foods, and bread!!!!!
My biggest problem at the moment is picking - I am just so nibbly and will munch on anything and everything while I wait for supper to be ready, even though I have shown restraint throughout the day! This is no good for weightwatchers!!!
i was driving the lady next door to garage sales, i cant get out of the car cos i am not walking very well.
but it was on a very steep hill.facing up hill, when she got back in the car i tried to drive forward, it kept going backwards downhill,it was awful,i thought i would kill the old lady, she was as white as a sheet ( she is 86) so i shouted out to a man, " can you help me please " he ran over & while it was slowly going backwards (hand brake on, )he jumped in & said well you didnt have the motor turned on (blush!!!blush!!!!
oh i guess alzhemiers on the way
About 5 years ago, soon after my baby boy was born, I went to a Moms and Babies Tea at someones house. We had finished up our tea and I loaded my baby and all the baby paraphernalia that a new mom carries back in the car, then I shut the car door.
I then realised that I had locked the keys in the car as they were in the nappy bag that I had already packed away. I stood there - dumbstruck - my 6 week old baby stuck in a hot car! I didn't want to call the AA, as it would have taken them too long to respond and I was about to break a window, when one of the other moms (looking at me with obvious disgust) checked the boot, which was unlocked - we opened the boot and I climbed into the boot and managed to push the back seat down and retrieve my keys!
I blamed it entirely on post pregnancy porridge brain!
oh man!
i almost died reading this list from the private jw group on facebook.
usually the posts there are quite nauseating, but this topic was priceless.
LOL FFM - that is very funny!
i just thought of that as a title as i reviewed a post of mine from about a year ago.. at that point, i had less then 200 posts.
i was going through quite a lot of turmoil in my private life, and received a lot of help and support from members of this forum.
4400 posts in a years time is probably a bit excessive, but it was what i needed at the time.
Hey JK
I am coming up for a year on this site, and have just recently made 1000 posts... mostly it was nonsense, some of it was ranting, some of it was serious. Sometimes this site gives me what I need, sometimes it irritates me and feeds my insecurities.
Whatever you need, may you get it!
Love
